What Is RodeoHouston?

The Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo — known as RodeoHouston — is the world's largest livestock exhibition and rodeo, drawing over 2.5 million visitors each year across its three-week run. Held at NRG Stadium and NRG Park, the event combines championship rodeo competition, A-list concert performances, a massive carnival, and enough BBQ and fried food to feed a small city. It typically runs from late February through late March, making it one of the signature events of the Houston spring calendar.

Getting to NRG Stadium from EaDo

NRG Stadium is located about 15 minutes south of East Downtown Houston by car, or you can take the METRORail Red Line directly from the EaDo/Stadium station to NRG Park station. The train runs extended hours during Rodeo season and costs just $1.25 each way — far cheaper and less stressful than paying $30 or more for event parking. Staying in EaDo puts you on the rail line with a straight shot to the Rodeo.

Why Stay in EaDo for the Rodeo

Convenience

EaDo gives you direct METRORail access to NRG Park, plus walking distance to Houston's best restaurants and breweries for pre-and post-Rodeo meals and drinks. After a long day at the livestock show and a concert, you are back at your rental in 20 minutes.

Value

Hotels near NRG Stadium spike their prices during Rodeo season, often doubling or tripling their normal rates. A vacation rental in EaDo offers a full apartment or house with kitchen, laundry, and parking for a fraction of what those hotels charge. Plus, having a kitchen means you can eat in for breakfast and save that money for Rodeo corn dogs and turkey legs.

The Full Houston Experience

The Rodeo is amazing, but Houston has so much more to offer. Staying in EaDo puts you near Minute Maid Park, Toyota Center, 713 Music Hall, POST Houston, and the best craft breweries in the city. Make your Rodeo trip a full Houston experience.

RodeoHouston Tips

  • Buy tickets early — Headliner concerts sell out fast, especially weekend shows. Tickets go on sale in January.
  • Arrive early for the carnival — The midway is enormous and lines get long by evening. Get there by 4 PM for shorter waits.
  • Wear boots — It is Houston and it is the Rodeo. Even if you do not own cowboy boots, this is the time to invest.
  • Try the food competitions — The World's Championship Bar-B-Que Contest happens the weekend before the Rodeo opens and features hundreds of teams competing for BBQ glory.
  • Take the train — Seriously. Parking at NRG is expensive and the lots are a zoo after concerts. The METRORail is the smartest move.
